In the heart of the Arts District of Culver City lies an existing 1-story CMU building that transforms into a pedestal for an incoming architectural jewel to sit atop. The jewel comprises of a white standing seam metal shell in which its innards are methodically revealed as a warm wooded interior. A pinched corner has been pulled back to show off an exterior patio welcoming the sunlight. Peeling a layer away, three floating boxes become the central theme and observation of the interior. Adjacent to the central boxes, lies narrow passages transitioning one into a gallery space holding the client’s art work. With each transition of space, one begs to ask if they have become part of the architectural jewel themselves.
